Describe the CPAs and firms you sell to, and Rodok builds a list you can refresh and flags new partners, hiring and firm news. Built around how sellers to CPA firms actually sell, so you start from your own stages instead of a blank page.

The whole CRM, not just the pipeline. Contacts, companies, tasks, email, automations, chat and the lead finder, in one app.

A cpa email list is a set of certified public accountants with a name, a firm and an address you can write to. This page is for sellers whose customers are CPA firms: practice software, tax tools, staffing, marketing and financial services. Rodok builds the list from filters you can rerun, so the useful answer is how to build a current one. It also applies to a list of CPA firms and an accountant email list.

How CPAs buy, and when to write

A CPA firm is usually led by a partner or an owner, with managers and staff below. The owner decides on anything that touches clients or the firm's money. Staff and managers often evaluate software and tell the owner what they think. Two things set the calendar:

  • Busy season. The IRS lists April 15 as the due date for most individual returns, moving to the next business day when it falls on a weekend or holiday, with a six-month extension available by filing Form 4868 (IRS: when to file). Many firms are hard to reach in the weeks before that date, so write in May through January.
  • Trust. CPAs are cautious about anything that handles client data. Say plainly what data your product touches.

If you sell a CRM to firms like these, see CRM for accountants.

How to build a CPA email list

  1. Choose who you want: partners and owners, firm administrators, or managers who run a service line.
  2. Choose a firm size and a place. A solo practice and a regional firm with 80 staff are different buyers.
  3. Search LinkedIn by hand. Some CPAs list the credential in their headline. Read the first 20 profiles to test the definition.
  4. Check firm websites. Team pages usually list partners and titles. Take only what the site publishes and read its terms.
  5. Use Rodok's lead database. The Leads page in Rodok Pro turns a sentence into filters on title, seniority, company size, industry and market. It usually returns a work email. Small firms with no LinkedIn presence will be missing.
  6. Verify, save the source in your CRM and refresh each quarter.

The rules

CAN-SPAM has no business-to-business exception, as the FTC says in its compliance guide. Use accurate sender details, a matching subject line, a postal address and an opt-out you honor within 10 business days. GDPR and CASL apply to their regions. Do not scrape LinkedIn while logged in, because that breaks its terms. This is not legal advice.

Signals that a CPA firm is about to buy

Trackers you can type into Rodok Pro (LinkedIn posts, job changes, hiring and company news):

  • Hiring staff accountants. Tracker: "accounting firms hiring staff accountants, tax associates or an audit senior in (region)". Growing teams need tools. See hiring surge.
  • A new partner or managing partner. Tracker: "partners and managing partners at accounting firms who started a new role or were promoted in the last 90 days". See promotion.
  • A firm opens an office or joins another. Tracker: "accounting firms announcing a new office, a merger or an acquisition in (region)". See new office or market.
  • A firm asks for a vendor. Tracker: "posts from CPAs asking for a recommendation for software, a staffing firm or a provider". See recommendation request.
  • A rebrand. Tracker: "accounting firms announcing a new name or a rebrand". See rebrand.

A first message to a CPA

An example, with made-up names:

Subject: Staffing after the extension deadline Hi Robert, I saw Whitfield and Lowe is hiring two tax associates. Firms that grow the tax team in the fall often need seasonal help by February. We place experienced preparers for January through April only. If it is useful, I can send how it works and what our agreements cover. No call needed.

Send in the off season. See the cold email template for structure.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get a CPA email list?

You can buy one, but firm staff change and a file ages. A better route is to build from LinkedIn, firm websites and a lead database that usually returns a work email, then refresh it.

When should I email CPAs?

Outside busy season. Late spring and summer through the fall tend to suit planning and purchases, and the weeks before the individual deadline are the worst.

Is a CPA the same as an accountant?

No. CPA is a specific credential, and many people who work in accounting do not hold it. If your product needs it, check the profile or the firm page for it.
