People showing a buying signal, found for IT leaders. Example data.

Rodok finds the CIOs and IT leaders at the companies you sell to, and flags the ones who just started, are hiring for a migration or have changed their stack. Built around how IT leaders actually sell, so you start from your own stages instead of a blank page.

The whole CRM, not just the pipeline. Contacts, companies, tasks, email, automations, chat and the lead finder, in one app.

A CIO email list is a set of chief information officers and the IT leaders around them, with companies and contact details. You can buy a static CIO contact list, or build a list that matches your market and rerun it as people move. Rodok builds the list from filters you can rerun. It finds people from LinkedIn signals and a lead database, so the list is yours and it stays current.

What a CIO cares about and how they are reached

A CIO owns the systems the company runs on, which means uptime, security, integration, vendor sprawl and the cost of licenses. They are careful buyers, because a bad tool becomes their support burden.

So a CIO looks for how a product fits what they already run, who maintains it and what happens if it fails. Do not promise speed alone. Say how it fits a stack.

They are usually reached in three ways:

  • A direct, specific message to the CIO at a mid-size company, where the role is hands-on.
  • A director or manager in IT, who evaluates the tool and takes it up.
  • A warm introduction or peer recommendation, which carries more weight than a cold pitch.

At large companies, procurement and security reviews add people and time.

CIO or CTO

The titles overlap. The CIO is usually inward-facing, running internal systems and employee technology. The CTO is more often the head of the product's engineering. If your product is a developer tool, your list is probably CTOs, and there is a separate page for that: CTO email list. If it is an internal IT or security tool, start with CIOs and heads of IT.

How to find CIOs and build the list

MethodWhat you getThe catch
LinkedIn by handCurrent titles and movesSlow, no email
Company sitesLeadership namesOften old
Rodok's lead database (Pro)People by title, seniority, company size, industry and market, usually with a work emailRerun any time

In Rodok, type who you want: "CIOs and heads of IT at healthcare companies with 200 to 1,000 employees in the US". You can change the filters afterward: job titles (CIO, chief information officer, VP of IT, head of IT, director of information technology), seniority, department, company size, industry, cities or countries, and verified emails only. Titles differ so much in IT that a long list of variants helps. A person usually comes back with a work email, but some do not.

How to verify the emails

  1. Use the verified emails only filter, then spot-check a handful.
  2. Send a small batch first and treat every bounce as a deletion.
  3. IT leaders often have security filtering on their mail, so avoid heavy links, attachments and images in the first email.

The rules for emailing a CIO

CAN-SPAM in the United States covers business email. The FTC guide says the law makes no exception for business-to-business email, so include a truthful sender, a physical address and an easy opt-out. See the FTC compliance guide. CASL (Canada) and GDPR (EU and UK) cover their regions. This is not legal advice.

Signals that a CIO is about to buy

Rodok Pro trackers watch LinkedIn posts, job changes and hiring. For IT, these matter most:

  • A new CIO. Tracker: "CIOs who started a new role in the last 90 days at companies with 200 to 2,000 employees". See new executive hired.
  • A hiring push in IT. Tracker: "companies hiring cloud engineers, IT directors or ERP project managers". A hiring plan often reveals a migration. See hiring surge.
  • A tool change. Tracker: "IT leaders posting that they are moving off (tool) or migrating to (tool)". See tech stack change.
  • A restructure. Tracker: "companies announcing a restructure or merger". Consolidating systems usually follows. See layoffs or restructure.

A first message to a CIO

An example, with made-up names:

Subject: Your move to a single ticketing system Hi Elena, I saw Halden Health is hiring a service desk lead and a cloud engineer, which usually means a migration is coming. We help IT teams keep their access reviews in one place while systems change. If it would help to see how it works alongside your current identity setup, I can send a short note. If not, no worries.

Swap in what your own product really connects to. See also the cold email template.

Frequently asked questions

Is a CIO the same as a CTO?

No. The CIO usually runs internal technology for the company's own people. The CTO usually leads the technology of the product. Smaller companies may have only one of them. Choose by who feels the problem you solve.

How do I reach a CIO who does not answer cold email?

Use a different door. Write to a director in IT, find someone you both know, or reference something public they posted. A short message that names the project they are likely working on works better than a broad pitch.

Is a bought CIO list worth it?

A bought list is quick, but it cannot tell you who is new or who is hiring, and its age is hidden. Building a list from filters you can run again gives you a current set. Rodok does this with a lead database on Pro.
