People showing a buying signal, found for sellers to finance chiefs. Example data.

Describe the finance chiefs you sell to by company size and type, and Rodok builds a list you can refresh and flags new CFOs and finance hiring. Built around how sellers to finance chiefs actually sell, so you start from your own stages instead of a blank page.

The whole CRM, not just the pipeline. Contacts, companies, tasks, email, automations, chat and the lead finder, in one app.

Every action by every person and automation, searchable and exportable.

Start with Pro

A chief financial officer email list is a set of the people who hold the top finance seat, with their companies and a way to reach them. The title means different jobs at different companies. You can buy a static file or build a CFO contact list you refresh. Rodok builds it from filters you can rerun. This page covers building the list by company type and size; for the shorter title and the full routine, see the CFO email list.

The same title, four different jobs

Company typeWho holds the seatHow to find them
Startup under about 50 peopleA founder, a controller or a fractional CFOSearch founders and controllers as well
Growth-stage companyA first full-time CFO or VP of financeTitle variants: CFO, VP finance, head of finance
Established private companyA CFO with a controller and FP&A teamSearch CFO and controller together
Nonprofit or schoolA CFO, finance director or business managerAdd "director of finance" and "chief financial and operating officer"

Match the filters to the company you sell to. A chief financial officer list that mixes all four returns a lot of mismatched records.

What the CFO cares about

The CFO answers for cash, the forecast, the close and what the company spends. A message that names a finance problem (a slow close, forecasts in spreadsheets, a growing software bill) is more likely to be read than one that promises to "save time". At smaller companies the CFO reads their own inbox. At larger ones a controller or FP&A lead often does the first review.

How to find CFOs and build the list

MethodWhat you getThe catch
LinkedIn by handCurrent titles and recent postsSlow, and no email
Company websitesLeadership pages with namesOften out of date, rarely an email
Rodok's lead database (Pro)People by title, seniority, company size, industry and market, usually with a work emailNot everyone has an email

In Rodok you type the list, for example "chief financial officers and VPs of finance at manufacturing companies with 100 to 1,000 employees in the US". Rodok turns it into filters you can edit: job titles, seniority, company size, industry, cities or countries, and verified emails only. A lead usually comes with a work email, but not every person has one, so verify a sample and send a small batch first. Remove every bounced address.

The rules for emailing a CFO

In the United States, CAN-SPAM covers business email. The FTC guide says the law makes no exception for business-to-business email, and asks for accurate header information, a non-misleading subject line, a valid postal address and an opt-out honored within 10 business days. Read the FTC compliance guide. CASL (Canada) and GDPR (EU and UK) cover their regions. This is general information, not legal advice.

Signals that a CFO is about to buy

Each tracker is a sentence you type into Rodok Pro, which reads LinkedIn posts, job changes and hiring.

  • A new CFO. Tracker: "chief financial officers who started a new role in the last 90 days at companies with 100 to 1,000 employees". See new executive hired and new role outreach templates.
  • A first finance hire. Tracker: "companies hiring their first controller, finance manager or head of finance". Early finance hires often mean the books have outgrown a spreadsheet. See hiring surge.
  • Preparing to report publicly or to investors. Tracker: "companies hiring an SEC reporting manager, investor relations lead or FP&A director". A reporting hire points to heavier finance work.
  • A funding round. Tracker: "companies announcing a funding round in the US". See funding round.

A first message to a CFO

An example with made-up names:

Subject: Northgate's first controller hire Hi Priya, I saw Northgate is hiring its first controller. Companies at that point often run the close across several spreadsheets. We help teams like yours set up a cleaner process. If it is on your list, I can send a short example. If not, no problem.

See the cold email template for more structure.

Frequently asked questions

Who should be on a chief financial officer email list?

Chief financial officers, plus the titles that hold the seat at smaller companies: controllers, VPs of finance and heads of finance. Decide by the size of company you sell to.

In the United States, CAN-SPAM applies to business email, so use a truthful sender and subject, include a postal address and honor opt-outs. Canada and the EU and UK have their own rules. This is general information, not legal advice.

Should I buy a list or build one?

A bought file cannot show how old each record is, and finance leaders move. Building from current titles gives you a list you can rerun. Rodok builds it from filters you can rerun.
